Bea's father Brian who was an equine vet, who took his own life at the age of three when Bea turned three was the victim of self-harm. Bea was informed of his suicide only after the age of thirteen. Bea adopted the stage name Bea to pay tribute to her father and wrote an article for The Guardian in 2017 about the family's suicide experience. Bea and her younger sister Sinead were raised by their mother Helen (nee Moloney) an elementary school teacher jockey trainer and an ex-professional jockey. They were both passionate about horses, race meetings and the racing industry. Bea was a trainer for her family's involvement at the Irish National Stud in her young teens. But she was aware that it wasn't what she wanted to pursue for a living and that she was more interested in performing.
